In the video linked above you can hear my Kesem journey and what Camp Kesem has meant to me over the past 4 years.
Giving Tuesday is our largest fundraising day of the year! We led planning and executing the day with our two Development Coordinators. We created a detailed day of plan about a month in advance. We focused on how to best advertise and fundraise virtually through the pandemic. We mobilized over 130 college students to reach their goal of either $500 or $1000 dollars. The work for GT was all done ahead of time and the day of my job as director was to motivate our volunteers to secure donations. Giving Tuesday was a great success for our chapter; we exceeded our goal and raised over $27,000 dollars in 24 hours! |
Linked above is a video made by Camp Kesem National explaining Kesem at Home. It is our main advertisement for Make the Magic this year.
At the end of April 2021 we are holding our annual Make the Magic Gala. This will be a virtual event held via OneCause. This is platform similar to a youtube video combined with a Livestream. We are currently obtaining corporate sponsors in the Cincinnati area, securing camper testimonials, raffles, and a paddle raise. Traditionally, we raise around $20,000 at this event, because we are doing camp virtually again this summer we adjusted our goal to our budgetary needs. We are excited and hopeful that Make the Magic will be very successful, we hope to build relationships with donors, sponsors, camper families, and our student volunteers. We are excited to bring a little bit of Magic to our guests homes on April 15th. |
Kesem at Home 2021
I started my journey as Co-Director by recruiting, interviewing, and selecting our coordinator leadership board of 15 dedicated college student leaders. My primary job throughout the year is to manage and motivate this team. I found that getting to know my team and understanding who they are yielded great results. I was able to observe when something may not have been going according to plan because I knew my teammates well. Additionally, I was able to motivate and guide them on a more personal level as well.
Although my role as Co-Director of Camp Kesem UC will formally end in August when we hold our virtual camp most of my job leading and motivating our coordinating board is coming to a close. I am so proud of my team and truly could not have had a successful year without them and their hard work. They have maintained their dedication to this wonderful program during some of the most challenging and stressful times in our lives. They have been learning virtually for about a year now, and in their free time they have gotten on to countless Zoom meetings and virtual events to help propel our chapter during this difficult time.
As I have mentioned, we will be holding a virtual camp again this year called Kesem at Home. We are excited by the opportunity to innovate and adapt our programming again this year. My role overseeing our operations team will be to lead our collaboration with the Miami University chapter. We are mentoring their chapter for the summer to set their programming up for success. Additionally, I will set goals and deadlines for our camper recruitment, professional staff, and our detailed week of programming.
We are very hopefully that we maybe will get approval for an IN PERSON KICK OFF DAY! Which is of course the most exciting news. Regardless, we will provide a week filled with joy, love, and support for our campers and their caregivers.
