My second year at UC has made me feel like I am finally growing into my own. I have found great opportunities and organizations that I am truly passionate about here.
I have grown deeply passionate for a student organization called Camp Kesem. As I look back, I can't find exactly where I fell so in love with this organization. It is a free summer camp run by college students for kids whose parents have been affected by cancer. I became more heavily involved and took a leadership position. My job is to coordinate and plan the schedule and curriculum for our leadership in training unit (teen division). By taking a more involved position I get to see the sides of our campers all year around. It has been extremely humbling to see and get to know kids who have been dealt such an extremely hard hand of cards. Camp Kesem humbles me in ways I never thought possible. Each day I approach this schedule with a mindset that is focused on these kids. Their triumphs each day show me what it means to be strong for the people that you love.
In another aspect of my life, I was given the opportunity to work for my dream designer, Louis Vuitton. I am a marketing major and Fashion Studies minor, my dream is to work on the business side of fashion. I have always had this taste and passion for design and art, so I jumped at this opportunity. I have now worked at Louis Vuitton for 8 months. I learned to be confident and poised even when others around you aren't. "It is easy to let other people rock your boat" another associate told me. I didn't really understand what that meant for awhile, but when I left work constantly drained and confused, I realized that no matter what goes on, you can't let anyone change how you feel. That's something that will never change for the rest of my life. I am still working on mastering this, but I know that if I hadn't starting working at Louis Vuitton, I never would have realized that I have complete control over how I feel at anytime.
This year has been instrumental for me in finding exactly who I want to be and how I want to do it. I honed in on my passions and began to run with it. It feels exciting. One year from now, I hope to have grown as much as I did this year.
